Substance Abuse and Addiction

Henry Ford Behavioral Services provides a full spectrum of substance abuse treatment and support services for people of all ages.

Treatment
Following an evaluation, patients may be recommended into one of our specialized substance abuse treatment programs. We offer many services at inpatient and outpatient levels of care to best meet the needs of our patients and their families. Treatment is offered at locations throughout southeastern Michigan.

  • Inpatient Treatment: During this intense level of care, patients are hospitalized to stabilize their addiction and receive appropriate medical services.
  • Outpatient Detoxification and maintenance with buprenorphine therapy: We offer opiate addiction treatment programs at convenient locations throughout southeastern Michigan.
  • Outpatient Treatment: Some individuals and families benefit from individual and/or group counseling sessions.
  • STEP Program: Focusing on relapse prevention, STEP is an overnight program for patients who are medically stable, but still require the safety of a 24-hour structure to start treatment and plan for recovery (patients have access to medical staff to address acute medical needs). Typically, STEP patients have been in treatment previously and not been able to sustain stable addiction recovery. Clinical activities center on historical barriers to addiction recovery and developing a plan to successfully establish recovery. Most STEP patients will be referred to Henry Ford Behavioral Health location for continued outpatient relapse prevention care.
  • Day Treatment: This outpatient service is designed for patients that have the ability to intervene on their active addiction cycle without entering overnight care, but still require the support of a day long clinical care program. The program meets from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., seven days a week.
  • Intensified Outpatient Program (IOP): The majority of the patients at this level of care continue to work in their professions during the day and come to treatment in the evening, helping patients establish their addiction recovery as they continue to balance the demands of family and work life. IOP patients are typically referred to weekly group counseling once they have stabilized their active addiction and initiated recovery.
  • Family Care: All family programs utilize an evidence-based care program called Family Support Network (FSN). This program ensures families receive education and skill development to understand and participate in the addiction recovery of their family and make changes that are necessary for their own mental health.
  • Early Recovery Groups: This outpatient level of care is intended for patients that have demonstrated the ability to intervene on their active addiction and require weekly contact with a counselor. Participants are seeking professional support and exposure to other individuals who share their desire for addiction recovery and making necessary lifestyle changes. Many groups are themed by gender, age or profession to provide exposure to people who share a common world view or life experience.
  • Educational Tracks: Several educational tracks are offered. Lectures occur one to two times a week with individual or family sessions designed to provide education and information.
    • The "Are You Concerned?" series that focuses on providing a clearer understanding of addiction, recovery and options available for patients and families to consider.
    • Early intervention service for adolescents and their families. This educational service offers support to families who are not certain how to best support a teen who is beginning to demonstrate signs of substance use or abuse. This service provides families and student with a time to evaluate current use and make decisions about the most appropriate direction for them to pursue.
    • The "Readiness for Change" service helps adult patients to take a closer look at their substance use and determine their needs and their readiness to make changes in their life.
